Tom Petty Dead At 66

October 2, 2017

Tom Petty has died at the age of 66.

Tom Petty suffered a full cardiac arrest on Sunday night. After being found unconscious in his Malibu home, he was taken to UCLA Santa Monica Hospital according to TMZ reports. There appeared to be no brain activity upon arriving at the hospital and a decision was made to pull life support.

Tom Petty is well respected in the music world. The songs of the ’70s band Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers soundtracked four decades, and for many, their lives. Their most popular songs were ‘American Girl’, ‘Stop Draggin’ My Heart Around’, ‘Mary Jane’s Last Dance’ and more. He was loved for his solo work too and was also part of the supergroup the Traveling Wilburys with Bob Dylan, George Harrison, Roy Orbison and Jeff Lyne. Tom and his band were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2002.

Bob Dylan told the Rolling Stone in a statement, “It’s shocking, crushing news. I thought the world of Tom. He was great performer, full of the light, a friend, and I’ll never forget him.”

Tom Petty last performed on Monday 25th September for the band’s 40th anniversary, which was to be their last big tour. This will be a huge loss to the world of rock ‘n’ roll. This story is still developing.
