New Release: David Gilmour Live At Pompeii
David Gilmour performed in the Pompeii amphitheatre for the 1971 hit film Pink Floyd Live At Pompeii. The concert film made by Adrian Maben seemed to capture the eccentricity of the band in a historical setting. In 2015, Gilmour returned to Pompeii for a concert which dubbed him the first performer to play their since it was used in 79AD. It seemed that the Roman ruins and Pink Floyd were destined to make history together.
Now David Gilmour is releasing a film with footage from the two 2016 shows which he performed in Pompeii- exactly 45 years after Pink Floyd Live At Pompeii. It will be released to a host of over 2000 cinemas for a one night showing this September. The whole performance was shot in 4k by director Gavin Elder and will contain highlights of both of the concerts.
David Gilmour said, “It’s a magical place and coming back and seeing the stage and the arena was quite overwhelming. It’s a place of ghosts…”
The concert is said to be an audio-visual experience featuring the famous huge circular cycloroma sceen paired with lasers and pyrotechnics. Some songs from the set include tracks taken from The Dark Side Of The Moon as well as some other well known Pink Floyd and David Gilmour originals.
Trafalgar Releasing will be distributing David Gilmour Live at Pompeii to cinemas on the 13th September and will be presented in Dolby Atmos sound. See here for ticket information. The film will be available to buy on the 29th below.
