There are hundreds of festivals across the UK to choose from, especially as we approach the season when the country finally starts to shake off the cold and wake up for a dance and a drink. Best of all, you don’t have to go much further than London to find all the nights of naughtiness you can handle. Let us guide you through a blood pumping year of high-calibre festivities.

First up is Raw Power, a little known yet totally exhilarating event now that takes over Tufnell Park from the 26^th – 28^th May this year.

Rockers and lovers of psychedelia should mark this occasion on the calendar and leave their responsibilities behind for a few days to party hard with underground acts from London, the UK and the international scene. This year’s headliners include Faust, White Hills and Evil Blizzard.

Tickets for the whole three day’s worth of heavy music heaven are only £60, and day tickets are also available for anyone who can’t hack it any longer.

With only a few days spare to recover, it will soon be time to head on down to Camden Rocks. I mean, it would be pretty rude not to, wouldn’t it? The 2017 festival is right on London residents’ doorstep and is headlined by massive punk legends The Damned, who are joined by Orange Goblins, The Ruts DC and around 250 other bands.

Camden might be a hip little place now, but back in the 1970s it was a stronghold for the punk scene in London, and Camden Rocks takes it back to its roots for a thrilling weekend of fun and frivolity. Access to all 25 venues is available with a single ticket, which you can get your hands on for £35.

After starting your summer off with such a bang, you might be starting to wear a little thin. I know I do. Not every festival has to have you staying up until 5am for three nights solid, and there are plenty of options on the festival calendar for anyone who prefers a more laid back vibe.

Enter Citadel Festival, a one day event that has a rather unusual quirk. The festival takes place on a Sunday, and brings with it that lazy Sunday feeling. It’s sort of a relaxed park vibe mixed with a steady party atmosphere later on.

Citadel is held at Victoria Park on July 16^th, and makes for a perfect counter-balance to the rocking and rolling (and subsequent headaches) of Raw Power and Camden Rocks. Headliners include The Foals, Bonobo, Twin Peaks and Laura Marling.  Food, games and tasty beverages will be plentiful.

Not all festivals are musical. Poker offers a different kind of adrenaline: the action of a big showdown in a tournament or major bluff in a cash game, and the excitement of participating in a psychologically enduring and strategic game that could win you thousands.

Unfortunately, the London PokerStars Festival has now come to an end, but the London Super Series that takes place between August 30^th and September 3^rd offers the same level of competition and festival atmosphere. Buy-ins for most events are around £250 or £500, making for significantly large prize pools that will have your palms sweating and your blood pumping.
