Jazz Artist: Helen Kane

October 26, 2015

Her big dark eyes, squeaky cute voice and flair for scat inspired a generation. Helen Kane was the real life Betty Boop and is thought to have even inspired the cartoonist to create Betty,

She rose to fame in the 1920s and became a poster girl for flappers everywhere. I first discovered her when listening to her hit song, “I Wanna Be Bad” which is by far one of her best. Her cheeky songs and mischievous sound makes her stand out in her time as she could not be replicated.

Her peak of fame struck when she released the timeless favourite “I Wanna Be Loved By You” which was famously covered by Marilyn Monroe.

Her sound is perfect for a 1920’s style party of Gatsby proportions.
