Las Iguanas Is Crowned Burger Of The Year

February 23, 2017

Last night at Islington Metal Works, Las Iguanas was crowned the winner of the National Burger Awards 2017.

Glenn Evans of Las Iguanas won a cook off against 15 other chefs, taking home £1000 in prize money and the overall winner award. The burger in question was the Las Iguanas Buenos Aires Burger which is made from 50% short rib and 50% chuck mince, Provaleta cheese, grilled smoky chorizo, caramelised onions, chimichurri and aioli.

Bourbon and IPA flowed throughout the evening as Casual Dining Magazine announced the winners. Three different burgers were created for the competition- the chef’s Signature burger, a Technical burger made from NBA Sponsors and a burger made from a mystery box of ingredients.

The winner of the Best Signature burger was local burger joint Lockhouse in Paddington for the Locked & Loaded burger. The burger is a rib beef patty layered with cheese, bacon, burger sauce, shredded lettuce, red onion and gherkins. Although that sounds like pretty standard burger ingredients, I suspect the sauce might make it “special”.

The other winners included Christian Stoner of Meat & Shake for the mystery box round and Ivo Pinto of The Lowry Hotel for Best Technical Burger. The burgers were judged by last year’s winner Andy Waugh from Mac & Wild, editor of Caual Dining Magazine Tristan O’Hana, Telegraph food writer Xanthe Clay, Byron head of food Fred Smith and Hawksmoor’s co-founder Richard Turner.

We are yet to try Las Iguanas burgers, but would love to hear your thoughts. Let us know in the comments below who would you have voted for?

    Really? I don’t think it’s the best burger by a long shot…
