New music from the former Beatles members is always appreciated- even if they didn’t write your favourite Beatles songs. Which is why it comes as no surprise to see Ringo consistently making albums for the past few decades. And as per usual, he’s brought some of his famous friends along for the ride.

Give More Love begins brilliantly with ‘We’re On The Road Again’ which is propped up with Paul McCartney’s bass playing and the occasional Macca scream. On the majority of Ringo’s albums, there’s always a must-hear track. ‘We’re On The Road Again’ is Give More Love’s standout song.

Most of the record feels as nostalgic as flicking through your own music collection. We have ‘Shake It Up’ delivering ’50s style rockabilly, ‘King Of The Kingdom’ brings the Reggae and we receive a little bit of country on ‘Standing Still’. Individually unappealing, but together, enjoyable. A bit like cheerleader syndrome.

“Not so long ago, back in Liverpool, playing every show while working in a Factory.” Ringo sings at the beginning of ‘Electricity’. Ringo was never a wordsmith and this is where he really falls short on his records. No one expects the poetry of John Lennon, but perhaps a little more imagination wouldn’t go to miss. Give More Love is for the fans who want some more. Just don’t expect him to sign any copies.

Give More Love is a piece of the band that everyone still wants a part of. Ringo’s dad-style-vocals and abecedarian style of songwriting can be overlooked because, well, his famous friends and his own deity-like background can afford it. Tracks like ‘We’re On The Road Again’ and the ‘Speed Of Sound’ make this one worth a listen. Give More Love is for the fans who want some more. Just don’t expect him to sign any copies.
