A music documentary-based festival is to launch later this week at the Hackney Picturehouse. Doc’ n Roll (nothing to do with Doc Martins) will be a first for London, showing 12 films, some followed by Q&As, and live sets in the adjacent Stage 3 bar.

Rockumentary fans are invited to plunge their mohawks into this school of band biographies and memoirs. Joining the line up is Primal Scream’s Simone Marie Butler and mod rocker photographer Dean Chalkley who will be host DJ sets. There will also be an exclusive retrospective on Julien Temple and an on-stage conversation with the man himself and author Zoe Howe.

There are a number of awesome titles splattered across the bill including the premiere of A Band Called Death, the story of the world’s first black punk band. Karen Whitehead will be accompanying a screening of Her Aim is True about the punk photographer Jini Dellaccio, and Danny Garcia’s Johnny Thunders biography, Looking for Johnny, about the life of the troubled Heartbreakers and New York Dolls guitarist, will also be screened.

Doc’n Roll director Colm Forde says, “I am very excited to present our festival and this line-up to London. It features many overlooked music documentary gems, which I can’t wait to support and share with our audience. We will expand the experience beyond the screenings and create a great social event at our festival hub”.
