Keith Richards Slams Led Zeppelin

October 13, 2015

The god of sex, drugs and rock n roll has spoken and this time it’s Zeppelin in the firing line.

Lately Keith has been reflecting on the music of fellow classic rock bands, and hating it. He tells Rolling Stone magazine whilst drinking a vodka and orange soda, that he’s not a fan of Led Zeppelin. He says, “I love Jimmy Page, but as a band, no, with John Bonham thundering down the highway in an uncontrolled 18-wheeler. He had cornered the market there. Jimmy is a brilliant player. But I always felt there was something a little hollow about it.”

This comes after The Rolling Stones’ guitarist criticised Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club as a “mishmash of rubbish” and described Black Sabbath and Metallica as “great jokes”. And who are we to argue with the great Keith Richards?

He continues to talk of classic bands in this interview, namely Keith Moon from The Who. He elaborates, “He was an incredible drummer, but only with Pete Townshend.

“He could play to Pete like nobody else in the world. But if somebody threw him into a session with somebody else, it was a disaster. There’s nothing wrong with that. Sometimes you’ve got that one paintbrush, and you rock it.”

Richard hopes the Stones will enter the studio before Christmas, but remains doubtful. He released a solo album last month called Crosseyed Heart and continues to drink like a champ.
