Calorie Counting On Booze Has Arrived

February 21, 2017

Whetherspoon has became the first in the UK to list all the calorie information on their drinks menu.

From the 8th of March, calorie counters can check the calorie information on the menus of their local ‘Spoons. Across all of the 900 Wetherspoon pubs in the UK and Republic of Ireland, a new menu will be installed to help weight watchers find out how many calories are in their drink. Some drinks companies have already listed this information on their bottles, so it seems that this is the way things are heading.

Wetherspoon chairman Tim Martin said, “We want our customers to have as much information as possible so that they can make informed decisions about the food and drink they enjoy at our pubs. We were the first pub company to highlight the number of calories on all of our meals and it seems a logical step to now do this for all the drinks that our pubs serve.”

Drinks company Diageo list their nutrition, calorie and alcohol content information on their site. AB InBev are planning to do this too with the information also being printed on their packaging. Will you be counting your booze calories? Let us know in the comments below.
